Thunder Bay Grain Elevators: Histories, Explanations, and Photographs (substreet.org)

This is a photo of the old abandoned grain elevators in Thunder Bay. This spot has been abandoned for years and it is a common aspect anyone who lives in the city knows about. When it was first built, the city was still in two separate parts: Fort William and Port Arthur. It provided lots of jobs for people and was the start of the two towns becoming Thunder Bay. There is no true definitive answer as to why it still stands but there is a common conversation held that the owner never wanted to sell and decided not to have it torn down as it would end up being too costly and pointless. So here it still stands empty and abandoned. Lots of people break into it because it’s one of the mysteries of the city and it is likely to stay that way. Although there is controversy on people’s opinions to rebuild something in its place or to leave a historical landmark where it is.
